KITCHENER, ONT: The Niagara College men’s volleyball team (8-6) continued on their road trip, this time seeing them face off against the Conestoga Condors (9-3). Unfortunately, the Knights could not piece together enough of a fight, losing 3-1 (Set scores were 23-25, 26-28. 25-19 and 21-25).

The Knights went down 2-0 early in the match with two really close sets, that could have seen either team win, before winning one of their own. Alas, the fourth set saw Conestoga take a lead early that they would not give up. Liam Marchetti provided the Knights with 8 kills, 1 block and 1 service ace while Tyler Carmichael helped with 7 kills, 4 blocks and 1 service ace. The Nieuwets brothers, Ashton and Micah, chipped in with a combined 13 kills, 10 digs, 4 assists, 3 blocks and 2 service aces.

Knights’ head coach, Steve Stone, commented on the win by stating it was a “tough one for the guys.” He continued to say that “the compete and effort was never in doubt and with that mentality, we’re going to be alright.” Concerning the game play, Stone noted that “ we need to make some better decisions on the offensive side of the ball and know when to extend rallies and when/how to terminate a rally – we’re in a good place but we need to execute better to finish.”

The Knights return home after a 2-game road trip to face off against the Redeemer Royals (4-10) in a pivotal match as teams jostle for positioning in the standings as we approach the end of the regular season.
