RECAP: Women's Basketball defeat Bruins; improve to 8-5

Friday, January 27th saw the Niagara College women's basketball program get back into the win column with an emphatic 80-58 victory over the visiting Sheridan Bruins. The win moves the Knights to 8-5 on the season and into fourth position in the OCAA West Division.

"This was a good bounce back win against a young but aggressive team" said Knights head coach Mike Beccaria after the game. "At this point of the season every win is important, and tonight we got the result."

The Knights dominated from the opening tip-off, never trailing the contest. Niagara opened up a 27 point lead at halftime, and rode the depth of their roster en route to a solid home court victory.

Veteran guard Brooke-Lyn Murdoch (Welland) continue her red hot play, finishing with 24 points, four rebounds, three steals, and three assists. The graduate of Jean Vanier Catholic, has be fantastic for the Knights in 2017 averaging 17 points-per-game since the mid-season break.

Beccaria felt his forwards were a major factor in the victory, highlighting the performances of rookie  Kim Shephard (Woodstock) and the newly added Melanie Tanguay (Welland). Shephard finished with an efficient 12 points and five rebounds on 6/7 shooting, while Tanguay turned in a game high 13 rebounds. "It was nice to see some of our forwards finish with some strong numbers" added Beccaria.

The Knights now enter the home stretch of the 2016-17 regular season. The team will travels to Sault St. Marie for a pair of road games on February 4 and 5, before returning home to face the Lambton Lions at 1:00pm on February 11th
