PREVIEW: Men's soccer to host George Brown in critical OCAA Central matchup

PREVIEW: Men's soccer to host George Brown in critical OCAA Central matchup

The Niagara College men's soccer program will return to their home field on Thursday, September 24th looking to build on momentum generated during the team's September 19th victory over the defending CCAA Champion Sheridan Bruins. The Knights will host the George Brown Huskies (0-1-1) at Youngs SportsPlex with kickoff set for 4:00pm.

The two teams have never faced each other in regular season or post-season play. With the new OCAA divisional realignment this season, the two sides will meet twice a year moving forward.

The Huskies enter the contest having contested two close matches against GTA opponents. The team dropped their season opener to the Seneca Sting on September 17th, and earned a hard fought 1-1 draw against the University of Toronto-Mississauga Eagles on the 20th.

The Knights enter the matchup riding a high after their impressive 2-0 defeat of the Bruins. The Knights opened their season with a tough 2-0 loss to the undefeated Humber Hawks on September 12th. The team is sitting in second place in the "group of death" OCAA Central Division. Former Toronto FC striker Keith Makubuya (St. Catharines) notched the Knights opening tally against the Bruins and the talented forward will look to find the back of the net for the second consecutive match against the Huskies.

Niagara College men's soccer head coach Frank DeChellis has received fantastic goalkeeping so far in 2015, as veteran Jordan Provenzano (Niagara falls) turned aside a career high 14 saves in the Knights opener, while Sam Robson (Milton) recorded a shutout in his first career start against the Bruins over the weekend. The tandem gives DeChellis back-end stability and lineup flexibility as Provenzano gave the Knights strong minutes at the striker position against Sheridan.

The Knights will face a short turnaround after Thursday's matchup as the team will host the Seneca Sting on Saturday, September 26th at Youngs SportsPlex.
