Alex Pasco and Kimbel Donayre named athletes of the week

Female Athlete of the Week – Alex Pasco, Women’s Soccer

Alex Pasco of the Niagara College women’s soccer program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. Pasco scored the Knights lone goal in her team’s 1-1 draw against the powerhouse Sheridan Bruins on October 9th.

A Niagara Falls native and graduate of St. Paul Catholic High School, Pasco competed for three seasons as a member of the Brock University Badgers. She brings the Knights high-end skill and experience to the forward position.

Her tally against Sheridan came via a top-corner header off a corner kick by teammate Emily Babcock in the 14th minute of the match. The goal gives her three on the season for the Knights.

“Alex is a humble athlete in terms of knowing what she can and can't do.  When she scores she knows exactly who put in the work that led up it and ensures they know that she knows” said Niagara College women’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis. “She comes to us at a more mature time in her life and it shows in how she exhibits a certain level of leadership among the group.”

Pasco’s goal lifted the Knights (3-2-2) to a crucial 1-1 draw with the Bruins (4-1-2), extending the team’s record unbeaten streak to 5. The Knights will return to action on October 14th when the team visits the defending OCAA Champion Seneca Sting.

Male Athlete of the Week – Kimbel Donayre, Men’s Soccer

Kimbel Donayre of the Niagara College men’s soccer program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week. Donayre scored two goals for the Knights during the team’s October 9th loss to the visiting Sheridan Bruins.

Despite being in just his first year of post-secondary soccer, the St. Catharines native and graduate of St. Francis Catholic Secondary School has been a dynamic two-way threat for the Knights, dressing in all seven of his team’s matches, and generating numerous outstanding scoring chances. October 9th saw him find the back of the net twice, jumping him into a three-way tie for the team lead in goals.

“Kimbel's goals were well deserved.  His work rate every game has been strong and he has been very industrious in our midfield” said Niagara College men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis. “I've known Kimbel since he was 12 and seeing him in a Knight's uniform brings the coaching staff and myself great pleasure.  Kimbel has been juggling work, school and athletics like a real champion and we are happy to see him have success.”

Donayre and the rest of the (3-3-1) Niagara Knights men’s soccer program will return to action on October 14th when the team visits the Seneca Sting for a crucial late season matchup. The two teams fought to a 1-1 draw on September 26th
