NEWS: Provenzano and Evans Named Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week – Jordan Provanzano, Men’s Soccer

Jordan Provenzano of the Niagara College men’s soccer program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week. Provenzano was outstanding during the Knights 2-0 loss to the reigning OCAA Champion Humber Hawks on September 12th.

Against the Hawks, the Niagara Falls native and Saint Paul Catholic High School graduate recorded a career high 14 saves, including numerous spectacular scoring chances in the second half.

“Saturday’s match was just Jordan being Jordan. Stopping shots, starting our attack and giving our back four the support they need to do their job” said Niagara College men’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis. “He arrived at camp this year in better shape than ever, and he has really taken on a leadership role with this team.”

Provenzano is in his third year with the Knights men’s soccer program and is the Knights’ career leader in shutouts with three. He is currently enrolled in the Niagara College electrical engineering program.

Female Athlete of the Week – Nicole Evans, Women’s Soccer

Nicole Evans of the Niagara College women’s soccer program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. The second year midfielder recorded her first career goal during her team’s tough luck 2-1 loss to the visiting Humber Hawks on September 12th.

“Nicole has really matured in her second year as a Knight” said Niagara College women’s soccer head coach Frank DeChellis.  “She is playing with more confidence and understands the physical demands of playing football at this level.  Her goal Saturday was the result of hard work at training and attentiveness to improving what she is good at, and developing the aspects of her game that need work.”

Evans is a native of Chatsworth, Ontario. She suited up for the Knights six times during the 2014-15 season. Her first career OCAA goal came in spectacular fashion, as the Fitness and Health Promotion student converted one a ‘turnaround’ strike from just outside the 18 yard box in the 58th minute.

Evans and the rest of the Niagara College women’s soccer program will return to action on Saturday September 19th when the team visits the Sheridan Bruins.
