Women's Basketball Sweep Cougars

The Niagara College women's basketball program improved to 2-0 on the season after beating the Sault College Cougars 59-46 on Sunday, October 27th. The Knights opened the season hosting the Cougars for a pair of matches this weekend.

For the second consecutive game the Knights offense was led by Alyssa McCabe and Shelby Johnston. McCabe finished the contest with a team high 14 points while Johnston added 11.

After the contest Knights head coach Mike Becarria commented "the quick turnaround is difficult but the team responded well and walked off the court with the result we needed."

The Knights got off to a quick start, outscoring the Cougars 17-7 in the opening frame, and for the duration of the game utilized their entire roster.

Coach Becarria continued "I really think Katie Beaucock and Hayley Tamo had their best games for us so far. Both played outstanding defense, contributed rebounds and made some shots."

With veterans Tara Gaillonardo and Miranda Ross still recovering from illnesses, the team will look to get healthy over the next few days before facing the Fanshawe Falcons at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre on Friday November 1st.

"We really need to get healthy" added Coach Beccaria. "As a full team we've only played as a full unit once so far this season. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone in action together."
