Women's Basketball Fall to Hawks

Friday, February 14th saw the Niagara College women's basketball program lose their final game of the 2013-14 regular season, after suffering a tough 60-47 loss to the visiting Humber Hawks. The loss drops the Knights to 11-7 on the season, and will see the team qualify for the playoffs as the sixth seed in the highly competitive OCAA West Division.

The game was marred by injuries for the Knights as starters Tara Giallonardo, Miranda Ross, and Alyssa McCabe all left the game with injuries. All three were injured in less than six minutes of elapsed game play.

Giallonardo and Ross did not return to action, while McCabe returned in the second half after undergoing treatment for her injury.

After the game Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria commented "Humber is the top team in our division, and considering what happened tonight, I'm proud of the way we battled."

The Knights will now face to OCAA East Division's third seeded St. Lawrence Vikings (12-4) in a playoff crossover game. The Knights will travel to Kingston on Saturday for the contest, with the winner advancing to the OCAA Championship being hosted by Mohawk College, from February 27th to March 1st.

The event will see the province's top-eight teams gather to determine who will earn the right to represent the OCAA at the CCAA National Championship.
