Women's Basketball to Open OCAA PLayoffs

Women's Basketball to Open OCAA PLayoffs

The Niagara College women's basketball program (11-7) will play an OCAA post-season game this weekend, as the team will travel to Kingston to take on St. Lawrence Vikings (12-4) on Saturday, February 22nd. The winner will receive entry into the OCAA Championship tournament being hosted by Mohawk College from February 27th to March 1st.

The Knights have enjoyed a strong 2013-14 campaign, but injuries in the second half of the season have slowed the team in recent weeks.

The Vikings are led by the OCAA's leading scorer Lacy Knox. The high scoring guard serves as the offensive catalyst for a team that is averaging 68.8 points-per-game (4th OCAA) while allowing just 45 points against (2nd OCAA).

The Knights will counter with a team based approach that has all five starters averaging more than seven points-per-game, and eight players averaging over 10 minutes-per-game of playing time.

Heading into Saturday's matchup, Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria commented "St. Lawrence is a talented team. We need to play defense the way we are capable and keep the energy level high to be successful."

Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 1:00pm and for up to date information please visit www.ocaa.com.
