Women's Basketball Adds Hailey Tippett

Women's Basketball Adds Hailey Tippett

Monday, March 31st saw the Niagara College women's basketball program bolster their already strong recruiting class with the announcement of the addition of forward Hailey Tippett. Tippett is a native of Port Colborne, and is a member of the Lakeshore Catholic High School Gators and Niagara Falls Red Raiders women's basketball programs.

Standing at over five-foot-11 the addition of Tippett will provide the Knights with size and athleticism from the forward position.

A strong student, Tippett will enroll in the Niagara College recreational therapy program beginning in September of 2014. Tippett explained "the campus and program really fit my needs academically, and having the opportunity to play basketball for Niagara College is just an added bonus."

Niagara College women's basketball head coach Mike Beccaria feels that the addition of Tippett will provide "height and skill to our forward group. She is team oriented, hard-working, smart, and is the type of player that any coach is always looking to add."

The Knights finished the 2013-14 season with a record of 11-7, and Tippett will join a talented and experienced forward group that includes Shelby Johnston (Welland, 4th year),  Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland, 4th year) and Miranda Ross (St. Catharines, 3rd year), all three of whom were team captains this season.

Tippett identified that one of her primary goals this upcoming season was to "form a bond and learn from some of the veteran players on the court, while training hard to become an asset to the team."

The addition of Tippett strengthens an already strong 2014 recruiting class for the Knights, as last week the team announced the additions of guards Sydney Phillips (St. Catharines) and Courtney Banham (Waterloo).

Coach Beccaria added "recruiting for us is a constant process. Our program is always looking for the top athletes and individuals to add to the team. How those student-athletes fit with the program as a whole is equally important, and we feel that Hailey will mesh perfectly with winning culture we are building."
