The 2014-15 season is officially under way for the Niagara College women's (1-0, 3^rd West) volleyball program.  The Knights went on the road to face the St. Clair Saints (1-1, 6^th West) and came away with a 3-1 win.

After losing the first set 20-25, the Knights rallied to win three straight 25-19, 25-14, and 25-23. 

Without facing the Saints in exhibition play, the Knights game plan was not as in-depth as 4^th year head coach Joeys Martins would have liked.  Coach Martins is known for his attention to detail and advanced scouting. "We did not see them in pre-season, so we could not prepare as much as we would have liked to," said coach Martins.  "From the coaching staff, to the players, we all did a great job adapting the game plan as the match unfolded, making a couple tweaks when needed."

5^th year senior, Lucy McLay (Stratford, ON) led the team with 15 points and 9 digs. Other offensive leaders were Alexandria Botelho (Stoney Creek, ON) with 15 points and 3 digs, Linnea Davis (Brampton, ON)  13 points and 12 digs, and Bailey Davis (Georgetown, ON) with 38 assists and 2 points.

Second year outside hitter Samantha Bailey (Cambridge, ON) provided a spark off the bench.  "Although not on the stat sheet for points," said coach Martins, "Samantha came off the bench in the second set, and gave us a big lift and helped stabilize play."

Up next for the Knights will be their home opener on Friday, October 31^st against the Mohawk Mountaineers (1-1, 5^th West).  Last season these two teams spilt the season series 1-1, with the Knights winning 3-2 at home and losing 3-0 at Mohawk.

Game time is set for 6:00pm at Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
