Friday, November 31st saw the Niagara College women's volleyball program (6-0) walk off the floor victorious for the sixth consecutive match. The Knights played host to the Conestoga Condors at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre, and true to their undefeated form, cruised to an impressive 3-0 victory. Set scores in the match were 25-14, 25-19, 25-20.
"Today was a good day for us against Conestoga" said Knights women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins. "Defensively we did what we needed to do, and we stuck to our game plan. We didn't try to do too much and overall it was a solid game. "
Offensively the Knights were anchored by their first year setter Bailey Davis. The five-foot-seven native of Georgetown has been outstanding for the Knights all season. The Recreation and Leisure Services student, who leads the OCAA West Division in assists-set-set with 8.72, added 37 more assists to her already impressive totals.
Coach Martins continued "I thought Bailey distributed the ball very well for our team today. She did an excellent job of giving our attacking players consistently great opportunities to score."
Veteran outside hitter Lucy McLay (Stratford) continued her dominant offensive play, finishing with a team high 14 points on 12 kills and two service aces.
McLay's fellow Stratford native and long-time friend Nicole Schoonderwoerd also gave the Knights one of her strongest outings the season. The six-foot middle blocker finished with 12 points on seven kills, two service aces, and a game high three blocks.
The powerful and athletic Linnea Davis (Brampton) gave the Knights nine kills, while towering first-year middle blocker Devon Lowes (Oakville) finished with seven.
The Knights will have a short turnaround as the team will now face a talented Sheridan Bruins side on the road on Wednesday, November 26th. The Bruins sit just four points behind the Knights in the talented OCAA West Division.
