RECAP: Knights defeat Saints; Finish season 15-3

The Niagara College women's volleyball program wrapped up the 2014-15 regular season on Sunday , February 15th with a hard fought five-set victory over the visiting St. Clair Saints. The set scores in the contest were 25-17, 25-20, 21-25, 21-25, 18-16. The win moves the Knights to 15-3 on the season, and sees the team finish in in second place in the OCAA West Division.

"Today was a see-saw battle, that saw us take the early 2-0 lead, but they fought back and took it to five" said Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins. "It was a very exciting game that that our girls didn't give up on, even during the fifth set when we were down."

The Knights were carried via a dominant performance from fifth-year outside hitter Lucy McLay. The five-foot-eleven native of Stratford saved her best performance of the season for the Knights final regular season game, finishing with 24 kills on 44 attempts. The Public Relations graduate student also turned in three service aces and a block, finishing with a season high 27 points.

Coach Martins continued "Lucy had a tremendous game for us today, and truly demonstrated why she is one of the best outside hitters in the province."

Fourth-year middle blocker Alexandria Botelho (Stoney Creek) also gave the Knights a season best performance. The six-foot human resource management student finished with 18 points on 15 kills and three blocks.

First-year setter Bailey Davis (Georgetown) added to her OCAA league leading assists totals. The recreation and leisure services student finished the game with a season high 51 assists.

The win moves the Knights to 15-3 on the season and sees the team finish in second place in the OCAA West Division. The Knights will now host an OCAA playoff cross-over match on Sunday, February 22nd against the Algonquin Thunder.

First serve is set for 1:30pm at the Welland campus athletic centre. Admission is free for all students and those under the age of 18. For those unable to be in attendance all Niagara College home games are live streamed at www.ocaatv.com.
