Knights triumphant over visiting Falcons

WELLAND, ON: The Niagara College women's volleyball team (7-4) took on the visiting Fanshawe Falcons (2-9) Saturday night at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at Welland Campus.  The Knights went on to undoubtedly win 3-0 (Set scores were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-14).

The Knights came out firing early and did not let off the gas pedal all night, controlling the match from start to finish.  1st year middle, Tess Kelly, was a dominant force at the net who helped contain the Falcons' attack while also contributing 8 kills, 7 digs, a block and an assist.  Montanna Taylor, who reached her 1000th career assist on the night, chipped in with 26 assists, 5 kills and 2 blocks.  Emmah Gmoser showed her defensive capabilities, leading the team with 11 digs and Hope Nicholson led all attackers with 10 kills.

"I am extremely proud of how our team approached today's game, confident and ready to win" said Knights head coach Elaine Pilgrim-Susi.  When asked about her thoughts on the match, Pilgrim-Susi went on to say "we established our middles early and dominated at the net.  Improving our serving and serve-receive were our focus for today and we were successful in both areas.  I know we will continue to build on our success in the new year."

The Knights head into the mid-season break currently sitting in 5th place with a 7-4 record.  When the season restarts in 2024, the Knights open with a home game at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at Welland Campus against the Humber Hawks (10-0) on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 6:00pm.
