January 24, 2024

WELLAND, ONT:, The Niagara College women's volleyball team (9-6) continued their winning ways in a matchup against the Redeemer Royals (8-8).  The Knights dominated most of the night, on route to the 3-1 win (Set scores were 25-12, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-14).

The Knights started off hot, doubling up the Royals in the first set.  With the Royals pushing back, the Knights were able to fend them off before clinching the win in a decisive 4th set.  It was a complete team effort across the board in this match as the offense was almost evenly distributed amongst everyone.  Kyleigh Baxter led the team with 9 kills, 12 digs, 2 service aces and 1 assist, although Tess Kelly followed close behind with 5 kills, 5 blocks, 3 digs and 3 service aces of her own.  Defensively, Montanna Taylor and Emmah Gmoser combined for 23 digs, while Sophia Matias, Emmah Gmoser and Sam Cormier contributed offensively with 4 kills each.

Head coach for the Knights, Steve Stone, praised the team by stating "that was the best and most complete game these ladies have played this season.  All around great team game with contributions from everyone."  Stone continued to comment on the chemistry this team is building when he mentioned "the growth we've seen in this team since the Christmas break is amazing!  The positive vibes and the competitive headspace these ladies are in right now is a really unique place to be."

The Knights will look to push their winning streak to 3 games when they take to the road in a matchup against the Fanshawe Falcons (3-12) on Saturday, January 27th.  Catch all the action and cheer on your Knights at www.ocaalive.com.
