Knights win streak snapped at 3

January 31, 2024

HAMILTON, ONT:, The Niagara College women's volleyball team (10-7) headed into the home of the Mohawk Mountaineers (10-7) Wednesday evening hoping for the same results as the last time these two teams squared off.  Unfortunately, the script was flipped and the Knights came away with the 3-1 loss (Set scores were 20-25, 23-25, 25-15 and 22-25)

The Knights had trouble getting things going this game and despite a fantastic third set, could not muster up enough of a fight to battle back in the fourth set.  Montanna Taylor lead the attack and put up a full stat line with 18 assists, 11 digs, 10 kills, 4 blocks and 1 service ace.  Emmah Gmoser followed close behind with 9 kills, 9 digs, 2 service aces and 1 assist of her own.  Sophia Matias and Tess Kelly combined for 11 kills, 5 digs, 3 blocks, 1 assist and 1 service ace.

Head coach of the Knights, Steve Stone, commented by saying "this was a tough loss to swallow.  We (the Knights) prepared well for this match and just came out flat."  He continued to say that "the Mountaineers were well coached and came out on all cylinders for this match.  It was as if the energy was just sucked out of the team and this is something we will improve on as we finish off the season and get ready for the post-season."

The Knights are set to welcome the Sheridan Bruins (5-12) to the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at Welland Campus, as they close out the regular season on Saturday, February 3rd at 1:00pm.  Knights fans are welcome to attend and catch all the action in person.  The game can also be found live at www.ocaalive.com.
