January 11, 2024

WELLAND, ONT:, The Niagara College women's volleyball team (7-5) took on the Humber Hawks (12-0) in a rematch on Wednesday night at the Simplii Financial Athletic Centre at the Welland Campus.  The Knights fell to the Hawks, losing in straight sets (Set scores were 17-25, 21-25 and 13-25).

The Knights battled hard but could not defeat the Hawks.  Montanna Taylor led the charge with 17 assists, 6 kills, 6 digs and 1 service ace, while newly added outside hitter Sophia Matias contributed with 4 kills of her own and 1 service ace.  Sam Cormier contained the middle as much as she could, providing 6 kills and 3 blocks.

Newly appointed head coach Steve Stone acknowledged the efforts of the team by stating "the ladies competed and worked hard all game."  Stone continued to note that "it's a tough first game coming against the top team and trying new systems, but I thought the ladies were working hard and making adjustments."  Looking towards the rest of the season, Stone believes that this game is "nothing to hang our heads about, just learn and move forward.  If we can tighten up the execution on some things and minimize the oppositions runs, we're going to be pretty good."

The Knights' next game will see them travelling to Windsor, Ontario to play against the St. Clair Saints (9-2).
