RECAP: Buzzer beater propels Knights to victory

Saturday, November 28th saw the Niagara College men's basketball program improve to 6-2 on the season with a dramatic 94-92 win that saw the team score a pair of buzzer beaters at the end of both regulation and overtime play.

The matchup between two of the top teams in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association saw 12 lead changes, and came down to the narrowest of margins. Trailing 84-81 with 1.1 seconds remaining in regulation, the Knights inbounded the ball to veteran forward Marako Lundy (Nassau, Bahamas) who converted on an impressive half court attempt that sent the loud and boisterous home crowd into a frenzy.

After trading baskets in overtime, the Knights again were faced with a last possession attempt for the win. Trailing 92-91 the Knights called a time out with just ten seconds remaining. The Niagara side worked the ball around in search of the right shot, eventually getting the ball to second year point guard D.J. Morrison. The Scarborough drained a three pointer with zero seconds remaining to secure the win for the Knights.

Niagara was led offensively by Lundy who finished with a team high 24 points. Rookie forward Jordan McDonald turned in an impressive 15 points and 12 rebounds, while Welland's Alex Elliott also notched 15 points.

The win moves the Knights temporarily into second place in the highly competitive OCAA West Division. The team will host the top ranked Mohawk Mountaineers on Friday, December 4th at 8:00pm at the Welland Athletic centre. The Knights will be collecting new toys in support of The Hope Centre and anyone who donates a toy will receive free admission and a ballot for a chance to win a Niagara Knights prize pack.
