PREVIEW: Knights look to rebound against division leading Mountaineers

PREVIEW: Knights look to rebound against division leading Mountaineers

The Niagara Knights men's basketball program (7-4, 4th OCAA West) will travel to Hamilton to take on the division leading Mohawk Mountaineers (9-1, 1st OCAA West).

Coming off of a tough 12 point loss to the Sheridan Bruins (8-3, 2nd OCAA West), the Knights will now look to overcome the reigning OCAA champion Mountaineers. However, it will be a tough task as Mohawk is coming off of their first loss of the season after they dropped an 82-75 decision to the Humber Hawks (8-3, 2nd OCAA West) last week. It will be an important game for the Knights as they look to keep pace with Mohawk, Sheridan, and Humber at the top of the divisional standings.

One key to the game will be on the glass, as the matchup will feature two of the OCAA's top rebounders going head-to-head. Mohawk's Jeff Hunt is third in the OCAA with 117 rebounds, while the Knight's Jordon McDonald (Mississauga) sits sixth with 102 rebounds.

On paper the Mountaineers and Knights are two of the most consistent shooting teams in the OCAA, with both teams holding field goal shooting percentages well over 40. In their previous matchup this season Mohawk leveraged a strong second quarter to defeat the Knights 97-89 on December 4th. In that matchup the Knights shot 46.6%, while the Mountaineers shot 43.4%. Alex Elliott (Welland) led the way offensively for the Knights with 17 points, including a season-high five from behind the three point line.

The opening tip for Wednesday's game is scheduled for 8:00 pm at Mohawk's David Braley Athletics & Recreation Centre in Hamilton.
