RECAP: Niagara Knights men’s basketball advance to consolation final

Saturday, March 5, saw the Niagara Knights men's basketball program return to action at the 2016 OCAA Championship as the team took on the St. Lawrence Vikings in the consolation semi-finals.

The Knights turned in a strong overall team effort as ten players contributed on the score sheet pacing the team to an impressive 75-60 victory.

The Knights trailed only in the opening minutes of the contest and led by as many as 19 in an up-tempo affair. The Niagara side exercised tremendous ball control, committing just 12 turnovers while riding the depth of their roster from the opening tip-off to the final whistle. All twelve players for the Knights saw significant playing time, while the team's bench outscored their Kingston-based opponents 45-16.

Offensively the Knights were led second-year guard Femi Akindele. The electrical engineering student shot a red hot seven of eight from the floor, finishing with a game high 16 points in just 15 minutes of playing time.

Rookie shooting guard Alex Elliott (Welland) added 10 points and was named the Niagara Knights player of the game for his performance, while second year point guard Lequan Hylton (Mississauga) turned in his second consecutive strong game, finishing with eight points and seven assists.

The win sees the Knights advance to the OCAA men's basketball consolation finals at 12:00pm on Sunday, March 6th against the College La Cite Coyotes.
