PREVIEW: Knights looking for winning result against Huskies

PREVIEW: Knights looking for winning result against Huskies

After a pair of tough luck losses to two of the top women's soccer teams in the nation, the Niagara Knights women's soccer program will look for their first win of 2015 on September 24th when they host the George Brown Huskies (0-1-1) at 2:00 pm at Youngs SporsPlex.

The matchup will serve as the first ever meeting between the two sides. Prior to the 2015 season the teams were in opposite divisions in the OCAA. The two teams now find themselves as divisional opponents with the formation new OCAA Central Division. Moving forward the Knights and Huskies will square off twice a season.

The Huskies opened the season with a tough 6-0 loss to the formidable Seneca Sting, before fighting to a 0-0 draw with the University of Toronto-Mississauga Eagles. Still looking for their first goal of 2015, the Huskies enter Thursday's match hungry for a victory.

The Knights opened their season with the daunting task of facing two of the Central Division's toughest opponents.  The Knights suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss, in terrible conditions, to the Humber Hawks on September 12th before enduring a similar 1-0 outcome at the hands (or should we say feet) of the Sheridan Bruins on September 19th. The Knights have out chanced their opponents in both of the opening games, and will look to convert those chances on Thursday against the Huskies.

The Knights have received outstanding play so far from second year standouts Shannon Halliday (Welland) and Rebecca Morrison (Erin). The duo has played virtually every minute of the Knights first two games, and will again be leaned on extensively against George Brown.

The Knights will also play host to the undefeated Seneca Sting (1-0-1) on Saturday, September 26th at Youngs SportsPlex. Kickoff is again scheduled for 2:00pm.
