NEWS: Women's Volleyball Adds Outside Hitter Tyler Garrick

The Niagara College women's volleyball program is pleased to announce the addition of Tyler Garrick out of the Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) and Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School. Garrick hails from Milton Ontario, and joins fellow MVC alum Natasha Desjardins as members of the 2017 Niagara Knights women's volleyball recruiting class.

"Tyler has the physical tools to excel in the OCAA as a leftside" said Niagara Knights women's volleyball head coach Nathan Janzen. "She has a great jump and a powerful arm. She will have no trouble scoring in our league."

Garrick most recently competed as a member of the powerhouse MVC system in Hamilton. She previously played with Halton Region Volleyball Club Hurricanes where she captured a pair of Canadian Indoor National Championships. She stands at five-foot-seven, and possesses an all-around game that will make her an important piece of the powerhouse Knights' future plans.

"I chose Niagara College because of the size of the campus and classrooms. Since the class sizes are smaller I will be able to create better connections with my classmates and faculty" said Garrick after a letter of intent signing and photo-op at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

"I have worked with Coach Nathan before and I believe that I can learn a lot from him and that he will help me improve my game" continued Garrick.

Garrick's versatility may be her biggest overall asset. She has experience playing both the leftside and rightside positions. "But where her athleticism really shows is on the defensive side of the ball where she is extremely fast and reads the game really well" added Janzen.

Garrick will begin her post-secondary playing career in the Fall of 2017. She will join a Niagara College women's volleyball program that has captured OCAA medals in back-to-back seasons. The Knights open their quest for a third consecutive podium finish on February 24th at the 2017 OCAA Championship being hosted by St. Clair College in Windsor.
