Preview for Men's Basketball Home Opener

With the 2014-15 season under way, the Niagara College men's basketball (0-1, 10th West) program is set to compete in their home opener on Sunday, October 26th.  The Knights will host the Lambton Lions (0-1, 9th West) at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre with tip-off slated at 4:00pm.

These two programs split the season series 1-1 a year ago, with each home team picking up the win.  Lambton won 98-79 at home while Niagara won 77-58 in Welland, behind a 20 point 17 rebound effort from center Ryan Christie (Hamilton, ON).

Both teams are coming off losing seasons, receiving complete makeovers in the offseason.  The Knights and Lions have only six returning players on their squads from the 2013-14 season.

In their only meeting during the preseason, the Knights defeated the Lions 72-70 in the St. Lawrence Invitational, where they eventually won a silver medal.  The Knights trailed by 4 heading into the fourth quarter but were led by freshman Trevon Ash's (San Diego, CA) game high 21 points.

For the Lions, they are coming off a tough two point road loss to the St. Clair Saints (1-0, 2nd West).  4th year Lions forward Mike Lucier (Forest, ON) had an impressive night, dropping a game high 30 points with 14 rebounds in a losing effort.

Players to watch: Niagara College – 6'7 Ryan Christie. Lambton – 6'7 Mike Lucier.                       Expect these two athletes to come out aggressive and battle in the paint for hard buckets and rebounds.  If Christie can stay out of foul trouble, he should lead the Knights to their first home win.
