RECAP: Men's Basketball Defeats Sheridan; Now Must Wait and See

Playing to extend their season, the Niagara College men's basketball (8-10, 6th West) program hosted the Sheridan Bruins (7-11, 8th West) Friday night in front of a large home crowd at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

In a three-way tie for the last OCAA playoff spot, the Knights were in a must win situation.  A win over the Bruins would not guarantee Niagara a postseason berth; as the Knights also need the St. Clair Saints (7-10, 7th West) to lose to Fanshawe College (12-5, 3rd West) on Sunday, February 22.

What could potentially be the last game of the 2014-15 OCAA season for the Knights, Niagara may have played their most impressive basketball against the Bruins.  Sheridan scored the opening basket to start the game but from there Niagara took over and never looked back.  The Knights outscored the Bruins by 10 in the first quarter on their way to a dominant 99-76 victory.  The 99 points were a team-high for Niagara this season.

Playing in his final home game, forward Delroy Grandison (Kingston, JA) led the Knights offensively with 26 points and eight rebounds.  The welding techniques major received a framed photo before the game honouring him as part of graduation night.

Third year forward Marako Lundy (Nassau, Bahamas) stuffed the stat line again.  Lundy finished the night with 21 points, nine boards, four assists, and five steals.  The six-foot-four standout has become a major factor in the Knights playoff push since rejoining the team in January.

Aaron Chapman (Huntsville), playing his final home game as well, extended his double digit scoring streak to six games.  The early childhood education major finished the night with 15 points.  First year point guard Lequan Hylton (Mississauga) tied his career-high with 17 points and eight assists.

With the 2014-15 OCAA regular season now complete, the Knights have no choice but to await the results of Sunday's St. Clair/Fanshawe showdown.  Tip-off is set for 3:00pm and up-to-date information can be found at http://ocaa.com/sports/mbkb/index.
