Knights Basketball Drop Tough Games Games to Fanshawe

Friday, November 7th saw the Niagara College basketball programs lose two highly contested games at home against the Fanshawe Falcons.

The women's basketball (2-2, 5th West) program lost a hard fought game 59-54.  Fanshawe (4-0, 1st West) remains undefeated despite a poor shooting performance, knocking down 31 percent of their field goal attempts.

Despite the fantastic defensive effort, the Knights were unable to capitalize and pull away with the victory.  Niagara held Stephanie Antwi, Fanshawe's leading scorer, to a season low six points on 13 field goal attempts.

Fourth year forward Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland, ON) had a game high 12 points for the Knights, along with eight rebounds. First year guard Kiesha Cato (Chatham, ON) led the Falcons with 10 points.

Afterwards, the men's basketball (1-3, 7th West) program fell to Fanshawe (3-1, 2nd West) in heart breaking fashion, 78-76. The Knights came out of the gates fast and aggressive, accruing a 62-49 lead after thirty minutes.

Fanshawe fought their way back into the game with a 12-0 run in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.  The game seemed destined for overtime but with one second left on the clock, first year guard Connor Therrien (London, ON) hit the game winner for the Falcons.

Trevon Ash (San Diego, CA) led the Knights in scoring with 19 points, while fifth year forward Ryan Christie contributed with a game high 9 rebounds.

Both teams will have a week off to regroup and prepare for their road trip against the Sault College Cougars on Saturday, November, 15th.
