Men's Basketball Lose on the Road to Mohawk

Men's Basketball Lose on the Road to Mohawk

A close first quarter finished with Mohawk leading 31-27.  Both teams went on multiple runs which made for exciting basketball.  Unfortunately for Mohawk, fifth year point guard Matt Saval (Hamilton) went out with an injury and did not return.

In the second quarter, the Mountaineers capitalized on Knights turnovers and scored multiple fast break points in transition.  Mohawk enter halftime with an 11 point lead, something they would not give up for the rest of the game.

The second half saw the leading scorer in the country, Mohawk's six-foot-five Matt Fennell (London) drop 18 of his game high 28 points.  Third year guard Patrick Iavarone (Hamilton) also chipped in a season high 24 points.

Without starting center Ryan Christie (Hamilton), who has missed the last four games due to a back injury, the Knights were outrebounded 69-51.  Fifth year forward Andrew Cicuttini (Dundas) was too much for Niagara on the glass, as he recorded a game high 17 boards.

Knights guard Trevon Ash (San Diego) dropped a team high 26 points.  Trevon has scored over 15 points in all but one game this season, leading the Knights in points per game, good enough for 15th in the country.

With the loss, the Knights fall to 3-5 on the season, one spot out of the playoffs in seventh place.  Niagara College has one regular season game left before the break and they will be on the road to face the Redeemer Royals (3-4, 6th West).  That game will be played on Thursday, December 4th
