PREVIEW: Knights host Mountaineers in pivotal matchup

The Niagara Knights men's volleyball program (7-2, 2nd OCAA West) welcome the Mohawk Mountaineers (7-2, 2nd OCAA West) to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre for an important West division matchup on Thursday night. Entering 2016 as the 6th seed in the latest CCAA Rankings, Niagara is looking to build upon momentum generated prior to the holiday break.

As the regular season's second half begins, the Knights currently lead the OCAA in both kills per set and points per set. The defending OCAA Champions will receive a significant boost to the lineup with the return of 2014-15 rookie of the year Cole Jordan (London). Jordan is a dynamic offensive presence that will bolster an already powerful offence, as he led the team in both kills per set and hitting percentage during the 2014-15 season.

Entering Thursday's match, the Knights are riding a two-game winning streak that began on November 28th against the Mountaineers in a tightly contested 3-2 (25-20, 25-18, 12-25, 24-26, 15-12) match. Sameh Khodr (Kalamoun, Lebanon) led the way offensively for the Knights in the contest with 23 points, including a season-high 20 kills. All-time, Niagara holds a 17-16 advantage over Mohawk, including victories in each of their last two meetings.

First serve for Thursday's matchup is set for 8:00 pm in Welland. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free. The game will be streamed live at http://goknights.ca/Watchlive

Prior to the match, Niagara College will be honouring all graduates from the fall athletic programs including soccer, golf and cross country. In addition, the Knights golf team will also be honoured for their OCAA Championship performances prior to the women's volleyball match at 6:00 pm.
