McCabe and Suderman named Athletes of the Week

Male Athlete of the Week – Garrett Suderman, Men’s Volleyball

Garret Suderman of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program has been named this week’s male athlete of the week. Suderman was outstanding for the Knights during the team’s two weekend victories over the Cambrian Golden Shield and Boreal Vipers.

Suderman, a native of Niverville, Manitoba, is in his second year for the undefeated Knights. Standing at six-foot-two, Suderman brings his team size and athleticism from the setter position.

During the Knights two-game road trip to Sudbury, Suderman finished the weekend averaging nearly 10 assists per set. After the Knights three set sweep over the Cambrian Golden Shield,  Niagara College volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld said Suderman “was nearly flawless in his decision making and execution and gave his hitters great opportunities to score.”

Suderman is currently enrolled in the Niagara College Sport Management program. He and his teammates will return to action on November 14th when the team hosts Sheridan at 3:00pm at the Welland Athletic Centre.

Female Athlete of the Week – Alyssa McCabe, Women’s Basketball

Alyssa McCabe of the Niagara College women’s basketball program has been named this week’s female athlete of the week. McCabe was outstanding during the Knights November 4th victory over the visiting Redeemer Royals.

McCabe (Niagara Falls) is in her third year with the Niagara College women’s basketball program. Against the Royals the five-foot-six point guard finished with a dominant 12 points, eight assists, six steals, and five rebounds.

“Alyssa has been our most consistent performer this year” said Niagara Knights women’s basketball head coach Mike Beccaria. “She continues to lead the team in assists, her scoring is up over last season, and she always provides leadership while on the floor.”

McCabe entered the season as the Knights’ all-time assist leader, and is quickly building on those totals, averaging over five assists per game, good enough for second place in the OCAA West Division.

McCabe and the rest of the Niagara College women’s basketball program will return to November 13th when the team visits the Sheridan Bruins.
