PREVIEW: Jeff Scott sets sights on career mark against Redeemer

PREVIEW: Jeff Scott sets sights on career mark against Redeemer

Jeff Scott (Georgetown) of the Niagara Knights men's volleyball program (10-3, 2nd OCAA West) is only two digs away from setting a Knights career mark. Scott will attempt to become the Knights career digs leader on Friday evening as the Knights travel to Ancaster to take on the Redeemer Royals (10-3, 2nd OCAA West).

Scott enters Friday's matchup with 419 career digs to his credit and hopes to surpass Bailey Cochrane's career mark of 420 on Friday evening. Cochrane, who competed for Niagara from 2013-15, was a teammate of Scott and an OCAA second-team all-star during the 2014-15 season. Through 12 matches this season Scott has compiled 58 digs, averaging 1.32 digs per set.

In addition to a big night personally for Scott, the matchup against the Royals will have significant impact on the OCAA playoff picture. As the Knights head into the stretch run, they will be looking to secure one of two first-round playoff byes, which are granted to the top two teams in each division. With the two teams tied in for second place in the OCAA West division standings and only five games remaining, a victory over Redeemer would go a long way to helping the Knights clinch the bye.

On December 3rd, the Knight closed out their first half of the regular season with a 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-16) victory over the Royals. Since their loss to the Knights, Redeemer has rattled off four straight victories to open 2016, dropping only two sets in the process. The Knights, who had their own five game winning come to an end last weekend, will need a strong performance to end Redeemer's streak and kick off another one of their own.

Niagara will hope to have recent history on their side in the contest, as they have defeated the Royals in six straight contests, dating back to 2013. They carry an all-time record of 27-11 against Redeemer, including 11 wins on the Royals home floor.

The match is scheduled to begin at 8:00 pm in Ancaster as the Royals Gymnasium. The game will be streamed live at http://www.redeemerroyals.ca/sports/2015/10/5/watchlive.aspx.
