Male athlete of the Week – Sameh Khodr, Men’s Volleyball
Sameh Khodr of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program (6-2) has been named this week’s male athlete of the week. Khodr was dominant during the Knights’ November 28th five-set road victory over the No.1 ranked Mohawk Mountaineers
A native of Kalamoun, Lebanon Khdor is in his first-year with the Knights. He stands at six-foot-two and lines up at the leftside position. Against the Mountaineers, Khodr was virtually unstoppable finishing with 20 kills (on just 32 attempts), while also adding two blocks, and an ace.
“Sam had a great game for us this week” said Niagara College men’s volleyball head coach Nathan Groenveld. “He brings all-around skill to our program and is continuing to develop as the season goes on.”
Khodr and the rest of the Niagara College men’s volleyball program will wrap up the first-half of the 2015-16 season on December 3rd when the team hosts the Redeemer Royals at 8:00pm at the Welland Campus athletic centre.
Female Athlete of the Week – Jasmine Thome, Women’s Volleyball
Jasmine Thome of the NIagara College women’s volleyball program (6-2) has been named this week’s female athlete of the week.
The veteran middle blocker has been a stabilizing presence for the Knights all season, and during the teams November 28th road victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers she had her best game of the season finishing with a team high 10 points in just three sets.
Niagara Knights women’s volleyball head coach Joey Martins felt that the variety of ways the five-eleven Kenora native found the score was her biggest impact. “Jasmine can score points from all different ways. Against Mohawk she had three kills, four aces, and three stuff blocks. A fantastic all-around performance.”
Thome is enrolled in the Niagara College exercise science for health and performance graduate program. She and her teammates will return to action on December 3rd when they host the Redeemer Royals at 6:00pm at the Welland Athletic Centre.
