RECAP: Niagara earn road victory over St. Clair

The Niagara Knights men's volleyball program (9-2, 2nd OCAA West) earned their fourth straight victory by defeating the St. Clair Saints (2-9, 8th OCAA West) on Sunday afternoon in Windsor. The 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-22) victory came in the Knights first trip back to St. Clair since capturing the 2015 OCAA Championship in Windsor last season.

Offensively the Knights were paced by Jeff Scott (Georgetown) who scored 16 points in the match. Scott has now scored 620 points in his career at Niagara, which moves him into second all-time in career points for the Knights. He now sits 120 points behind all-time lead Graeme Gaunt who scored 720 points for Niagara from 1999-2003.

Garrett Sunderman (Niverville, MB) did an excellent job in the setter position, keeping the offence flowing throughout the match. Sunderman contributed 28 assists in the match, which averages to a season high 9.3 assists per set. Defensively Matt Friesen (Grunthal, MB) led the way with 10 digs for the Knights.

Despite the sweep, it was a challenging victory for the Knights away from home. St. Clair entered Sunday coming off of a tight loss in their previous match, and were hungry for a victory. "I was proud of the way we battled today," said head coach Nathan Groenveld, "it was a very solid team road win."

The Knights next opponent will be the Humber Hawks (7-3, 5th OCAA West) on January 20th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre at 3:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00, while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free. For those unable to be in attendance, all Knights home games are live streamed through www.goknights.ca/watchlive.
