Women's Volleyball Down Cambrian

Women's Volleyball Down Cambrian

Sunday, October 27th saw the Niagara College women's volleyball program improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating the Cambrian Golden Shield 3-1. The victory was the second in as many days and the Knights now walk away from their two game road trip to Sudbury with a pair of victories.

The set scores for the contest were 23-25, 27-25, 25-13, 25-19.

After the game Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins commented "before the match we talked about leaving Sudbury with a 2-0 record, our focus this weekend was to take it one match at a time, and that is exactly what we did."

The Knights received an outstanding individual effort from second-year Burlington native Kayde Bailey. The five-foot-eight sport management student finished the match with a game high 24 points on 14 kills, five aces and six blocks. Bailey also added 19 digs.

The Knights opened the match slowly dropping the first set before finding their rhythm. Coach Martins continued "we started off slow, the first two sets we were lacking a lot of emotion on the court. When we won the second set it was like a light switch for the girls, all of a sudden the energy and love for the sport showed.  We played with a lot of passion and carried that through the end of the match."

Also recording a strong game for the Knights was first-year outside hitter Maddi Morgan. The five-foot-nine native of Whitby was a force at the net for the Knights finishing the match with 10 stuff blocks, two kills, and three aces.

The Knights will have a full week of rest after the challenging five hour road trip to Sudbury. The team's next match will see the Knights make their home court debut on Sunday, November 3rd at 12:00pm versus the St. Clair College Saints.
