Standout Middle Devon Lowes Joins Knights Women's Volleyball

The Niagara College department of athletics and recreation is pleased to announce the addition of standout middle blocker Devon Lowes to the women's volleyball program. Lowes brings the Knights size and experience having competed for the White Oaks Wildcats and Burlington Blaze volleyball programs.

"I am really excited to be heading to Niagara in the Fall. I always feel welcomed while on campus" said Lowes. "I really like the school atmosphere, they have a great women's volleyball program, and I really like the coaching staff."

The Oakville, Ontario native is a graduate of White Oaks Secondary School, and is an accomplished club player having competed for the Burlington Blaze. Playing the middle blocker position, Lowes brings the Knights tremendous size standing at over six-foot.

"Devon is a physical athlete that has set some pretty high goals and is driven to achieve them" said Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins. "She has great size and her work ethic off the court is awesome. I feel Devon is a great addition to our program."

Lowes will enroll in the Niagara College two-year Police Foundations program beginning in September.  After graduation she envisions furthering her academic pathway via an undergraduate degree in criminology.

Lowes continued "I want to get an 80% average in my program. It's important to me and is definitely a goal of mine."

Coach Matins added "I have watched Devon play and grow over the past couple years and I think she will fit in nicely with everyone we have coming in."

The Niagara College women's volleyball program was eliminated in the first round of the 2013-14 OCAA Playoffs, and members of the team are already looking forward to next season, as Lowes is the fifth incoming student-athlete to be announced by the Knights this off-season.
