Women's Volleyball Host a Must Win Weekend

Women's Volleyball Host a Must Win Weekend

It all comes down to the final two matches of the 2013-14 season for the Niagara College women's volleyball program. Unable to find their rhythm since the mid-season break, the Knights came up with a crucial upset victory over the St. Clair Saints on February 2nd.

The win moved the Knights into seventh place in the OCAA West Division, just two points out of the sixth and final playoff position.

The Knights trail the Mohawk Mountaineers in the standings, and the team got some much needed help in their 2013-14 playoff quest as the Redeemer Royals defeated the Mountaineers on Thursday night.

The Knights have just two games remaining. The scenario, win both matches, and you have a chance to qualify for the post-season.

The Knights will host two opponents from Sudbury this weekend. Saturday afternoon will see the Boreal Vipers (0-15) visit the Welland Campus Athletic Centre, before the Cambrian Golden Shield (5-10) visit on Sunday.

The Knights will continue to lean on the strong play of team captain and veteran middle blocker Alexandria Botelho. The Stoney Creek native was virtually unstoppable in the team's victory over St. Clair, finishing with a match high 23 points. Botelho was named Niagara College athlete of the week (her third this season) for the performance.

First serve for both matches this weekend is set for 1:00pm. Admission is free for all Niagara College students, and for those unable to be in attendance, all matches are live broadcasted via www.ocaatv.com.
