Wednesday, April 9th saw the Niagara College women's volleyball program announce the addition of incoming student-athlete Michelle Walker. Walker will lineup as an outside hitter for the Knights and currently competes as a member of the Ancaster Royals and Burlington Blaze girls' volleyball teams.
The five-foot-seven native of Ancaster has plans of taking full advantage the student-athlete experience offered at Niagara College.
Walker commented "I want to have a balanced lifestyle. I plan on being very focused on maintaining good grades, having a successful volleyball season, and having an active social life."
Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins commented "Michelle is a very controlled player, and has a lot of determination. I have had the privilege of coaching Michelle in the past. She has gone through a position change, worked hard in the gym every day, and her game has improved to another level."
Walker will enroll in the Niagara College Pre-Health Sciences program beginning in September. She was formally welcomed to the Knights family during a media event at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.
"I really like the Niagara College athletic program and I'm looking forward to being a part of it. I want to become a highly valued team player and I look forward to learning from the more experienced members of the program" said Walker.
Walker is the fourth student-athlete to be announced as joining the Knights beginning next season, and the new recruits will lineup alongside OCAA All-Stars Alexandria Botelho and Kayde Bailey, as well as returning players Sami Bailey and Madison Morgan.
She is a graduate of Ancaster High School where she competed for the Royals volleyball team. She is a former high school Most Valuable Player who plays an athletic and skilled game that will make here a welcome addition to the Niagara College Knights.
Fresh off being named an Assistant Coach with the Canadian National Women's Volleyball Program, Coach Martins continued "we project that Michelle will be a great player for us, and the entire Niagara College Women's Volleyball Program is excited to welcome her."
