Women's Volleyball Defeated by Fanshawe

Friday night saw the Niagara College women's volleyball program lose a tough four-set match to the visiting Fanshawe Falcons. The set scores for the contest were 25-27, 25-19, 25-14, 25-15. The loss moves the Knights to 4-4 on the season and into fifth place in the OCAA West Division.

The first set saw the Knights play some of their best volleyball of the 2013-14 season defeating the 7-1 Falcons to open the match.

The team failed to maintain that momentum through the rest of the game as the Falcons found their rhythm and demonstrated why they are one of the top-15 teams in the CCAA national rankings.

Despite the loss Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins felt his team "did some great things" in the match.

The Knights had two members of the starting lineup playing in new positions. First-year Welland native Chelsie McPherson made the switch from starting leftside to the libero position, and first-year outside hitter Sami Bailey (Cambridge), made her debut after returning from an injury suffered during the Knights'pre-season.

Coach Martins continued "despite the changes tonight, overall I think we played well together. All of our players were close to double digits in scoring."

The Knights will wrap up 2013 with a road match versus the 3-4 Conestoga Condors on Wednesday, December 4th. First-serve is set for 6:00pm.
