Women's Volleyball Defeat Sheridan

Women's Volleyball Defeat Sheridan

Despite nearly five weeks off, Wednesday, January 8th saw the Niagara College women's volleyball program even their record at 5-5 on the season after defeating the Sheridan Bruins three sets to one. The set scores in the match were 25-21, 22-25, 25-15, and 25-19.

Despite losing the second set, Niagara College women's volleyball head coach Joey Martins felt the match was "the best we have played to date as a whole" and credited his players' ability to adapt to some "positional changes made over the mid-season break."

The position changes involve the Knights' two highest scoring players in Kayde Bailey and Maddi Morgan. Coach Martins feels that with Bailey lining up at the leftside position, the Burlington native "can focus more actively on her offensive game, while Maddi on the rightside will let us better utilize her defensive abilities."

Leading the way offensively for the Knights was third-year team captain Alex Botelho (Stoney Creek). The six-foot middle finished with 13 points. Botelho felt the key to the victory was the team's "communication, it really helped our energy level throughout the match even when things were not going our way."

The Knights will have little time to enjoy the victory as the team will have just one day off before hosting the Conestoga Condors on Friday night at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. First-serve is set for 6:00pm and admission is free for all students.
