Knights Volleyball to Support Canadian Veterans

Knights Volleyball to Support Canadian Veterans

With Remembrance Day fast approaching the Niagara College department of athletics & recreation is raising money and awareness in support of Veterans Affairs Canada and the local Royal Canadian Legion.

During the Niagara College Knights men's and women's volleyball matches on Sunday, November 10th, all ticket sales will be donated to the Pelham Royal Canadian Legion. Additionally, throughout the afternoon donations will be accepted and with any donation, spectators will receive a game program, poppy, and Canada Remembers pin.

The event will serve as part of Veterans Week that is held each year from November 5-11th.

The Veterans Affairs Canada website describes Veterans Week as hundreds of commemorative ceremonies and events [that] take place across the country. These are opportunities for all Canadians to recognize the contribution our Veterans have made and to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of Canada.

Sundays match versus the Mohawk Mountaineers will also feature a moment of silence, on-site poppy boxes, and flyers designed to raise awareness for Remembrance in Canada.

Niagara College manager of athletics & recreation Matthew Davies commented, "we are proud to support the Pelham Royal Canadian Legion as part of an OCAA-wide effort. It is important to remember and commemorate all of the veterans who made such immeasurable sacrifices."

First serve for the women's volleyball match versus Mohawk is set for 1:30pm while the men will get underway at 3:30pm. Tickets are $5.00 for any non-Niagara College student over the age of 17.
