Women's Volleyball Fall to 4-3 on the Season

The Niagara College women's volleyball program (4-3) had its three game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night at the hands of the Redeemer Royals. The set scores for the 3-1 defeat were 25-14, 25-19, 22-25, and 25-13.

After the match Knights' head coach Joey Martins commented "tonight was a very uncharacteristic night for our team."

The Knights never truly found their rhythm in the contest, and from the first-serve played from behind. The veteran Redeemer side was paced by star outside hitter Curtiss Straatsma who finished with a game high 19 points.

The Knights were led offensively by Maddi Morgan (Whitby) and Kayde Bailey (Burlington). The two outside hitters finished with 13 and 10 points respectively.

Coach Martins felt that the student support and loud crowds that attend Redeemer matches gave the Royals a true edge in the contest. He continued "Redeemer does a great job with support from their fellow students, they are very passionate about their sports.  This was something new to a lot of the girls, because of this I felt we didn't fully play to our potential, they dictated the match."

The Knights will have nine days off before facing the OCAA West's second place Fanshawe Falcons on November 29th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. First serve for the contest is set for 6:00pm.
