February 26th, 2020... PETERBOROUGH ONT.- Three Niagara College Knights men's volleyball players were recognized for their performances this season at the 2020 Men's Volleyball Championship banquet Thursday night in Peterborough Ontario.
Sam Otten was named an OCAA West Division First Team All-Star for his standout season with the blue and white. Otten was continually among the top five OCCA league leaders this season, finishing 2019-20 averaging 4.8 points-per-set for a total of 243 in 14 games played. The fifth-year Toronto native finished the season with a grand total of 191 kills (3.75 K/S) to finish fourth among stats leaders.
Joining him among stats leaders in the OCAA and named a OCAA West Division Second Team All-Star was Elijah Bugiaradini. Bugiardini finished 14th in the OCAA stats leaders category, averaging 3.7 points-per-set with a total of 251 for 2019-20. The third- year Hamilton native suited up for the Knights in 18 games this season, bringing down a whopping 202 kills (2.97 K/S).
Also receiving honours from the OCAA was rookie Colin Prelaz. Prelaz stared in 18 matches this season with eight of those in the starting line-up. The first-year outside hitter from London averaged 2.6 points-per-set for a season total of 171. Prelaz also put up big numbers in the Kills column with a grand total of 145.
Niagara finished the 2019-2020 season with a third-place finish in the OCAA West division with a 12-6 record. Their cross-over win over the George Brown Huskies on Feb 22 propelled them into the OCAA Men's Volleyball Championship tournament. The Knights have not medalled since their OCAA gold in 2014-2015, and will look to end that drought when they open things up with a match against the Georgian Grizzles (15-3) at 8:30 P.M. Thursday.
