Knights Women's Soccer Nabs GTA Standout Megan Morgado

April 1, 2020....WELLAND - The Niagara College women's soccer team has signed their second recruit for the 2020-2021 season with the commitment of Mississauga native, Megan Morgado.

Morgado officially committed to Niagara College earlier in the week, after mulling over a few options in the greater-Toronto area.

Recognizing that Toronto area players are hard to attract to the Niagara region, head coach Rob Lalama worked feverishly to convince Morgado to come play for the blue and white. Lalama travelled as far as Ottawa to scout Morgado, as well as several Toronto area showcase tournaments and games.

"I'm excited about Megan," said Lalama. "She represents those GTA players that are tough to attract down here in Niagara, and it's huge for us to attract this type of player."

Morgado currently plays for the Dixie Soccer Club U-21 team as well as representing her high school team,St. Joan of Arc Catholic Secondary School.

Standing at 5-foot-two, Morgado plays both the midfield and defence positions, something Lalama is thrilled about adding to his squad.

"Megan is a high-quality player. She's got excellent skill, speed and toughness. She's a full-back who loves to join the attack, which is exactly what I am looking for in a full-back, and will be a solid addition to our 2020 team."

Despite the tough decision Morgado had to make in choosing her education and continuing her soccer career at the post-secondary level, Morgado says Niagara's BRTF program's reputation and the warm welcome she received during a campus visit sealed the deal on becoming a Knight.

Enrolled in the Broadcasting: Radio, television and Film program for Fall 2020, it's clear to see Lalama's hard work paid off.

"Niagara has a very well-known broadcasting program," said Morgado."The school is very welcoming -I felt comfortable at Niagara after my first visit. Coach Robert welcomed me with open arms and made me feel comfortable right away with the girls, who did the same. The overall environment of the school really allowed me to see myself there as a student."

Not only is Morgado looking forward to building the women's program into a championship team, she's also excited to get started on the 'student' portion of a student-athlete at Niagara College.

"I look forward to having success in my program and learning all about the field. I have wanted to take part in this career path since I was very young and I cannot wait for it to finally start."
