Women's Basketball Set to Host Lambton in 2014-15 Home Opener

Women's Basketball Set to Host Lambton in 2014-15 Home Opener

The 2014-15 OCAA basketball season has officially begun for the Niagara College women's (0-1, 10thWest) program.  After beginning the season with a tough road loss against the Sheridan Bruins (1-0, 1st West), the Knights will be looking to collect their first win in front of their home fans on Sunday, October 26th.  The Knights will play host to the Lambton Lions (0-1, 9th West) at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

The Lions are coming off a 22 point loss to the St. Clair Saints (1-0, 2nd West).  Lambton was led offensively by 3rd year guard Riley Williams (Sarnia, ON), who scored a team high 16 points to go along with 6 rebounds.

The Knights swept the season series last year, winning at Lambton 72-36, a game that saw all eleven players' record at least one point.  At home, the Knights escaped with a win 69-63, behind the dominate 26 point performance from Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland).

Players to watch: Niagara College – Guard, Alyssa McCabe.  For the Knights to be successful, they will look to their field general to distribute the ball often, getting her teammates open looks from high percentage spots.   Her 3:1 assist to turnover ratio from last game will need to continue.

Lambton – Guard, Amanda Orr. The Knights will want to prevent Orr from getting to the foul line, where she went 4/4 on her way to 15 points last time these two teams matched up.

Tip-off is set for 2:00pm.
