PREVIEW: Knights seek third straight victory as second half begins

Seeking their third victory in as many matches, the Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (7-2, 3rd OCAA West) will host the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-7, 8th OCAA West) on Thursday night at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre.

The Knights wrapped up 2015 by winning four of their final five matches, including their final two. They are looking to carry that momentum into the second half of the regular season, beginning with the matchup against the Mountaineers. Niagara's offence in the first half was quarterbacked by second-year setter Bailey Davis (Georgetown). Davis, an OCAA all-rookie in 2014-15, currently sits second in the OCAA in both assists per set (7.96) and service aces per set (0.96).  She will look to continue her impressive play in the season's second half as the Knights push towards the playoffs.

Niagara has a 12-23 all-time record against Mohawk and has swept each of the last three meetings. In their last matchup the Knights came away with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 26-24) victory against the Mountaineers on November 28th in Hamilton. The Knights featured a balanced attack in that match with Jasmine Thome (Kenora), Rachel Rivers (Cambridge), and Linnea Davis (Brampton) all recording a team high 10 points. Defensively, Kennisis VanSoelen (Orangeville) recorded a team high 19 digs in the victory.

First serve for Thursday's matchup is set for 6:00pm at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free. The game will be streamed live at http://goknights.ca/watchlive

Prior to Thursday's match, Niagara College will be honouring the 2015 OCAA men's golf champion Niagara Knights, 2015 OCAA men's individual golf champion Evan Littlefield and 2015 OCAA women's individual golf champion Lorelle Weavers. Additionally, all graduates from the fall athletic programs including soccer, golf and cross country will be honoured prior to the start of the men's volleyball match at 8:00 pm.
