PREVIEW: Knights look to maintain hold on third place on the road

PREVIEW: Knights look to maintain hold on third place on the road

Coming off two straight losses, the Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (9-4, 3rd OCAA West) will look to rebound with a victory over the Redeemer Royals (7-6, 4th OCAA West) on Friday night. The Knights will look to maintain their lead on fourth place in the OCAA's West division.

After rattling off four straight victories, the Knights have found themselves on the losing end of their past two contests. With three teams hot on their tail in the standings, a victory will maintain Niagara's hold on the division's third spot, and a potential home playoff game in the first round. However, it will not be an easy task for the Knights against a Redeemer Royals team that has won their previous three matches. In addition the Royals attack features the OCAA's all-time career points leader. Curtiss Straatsma recently set the career mark by recording her 1,240th career point.

In their previous matchup this season, the Knights prevailed over the Royals with a 3-2 (25-27, 25-15, 25-27, 25-23, 15-2) victory on home court. Led by Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) with 13 points in the contest, the Knights balanced attack featured 5 players who reached double digit points. Historically the Knights hold a 29-11 advantage, including victories in their last three meetings.

The Knights will once again look to that same balanced attack in their repeat matchup with the Royals. The offence relies heavily on the meticulous ball distribution of Bailey Davis (Georgetown), who currently sits second in the OCAA with a lofty 7.86 assists per set. This season the Knights are a perfect 6-0 when Davis records 30 or more assists, and only 3-4 when she records under 30.

Friday's matchup is scheduled for 6:00 pm at the Royals Gymnasium in Ancaster. The game will be streamed live at http://www.redeemerroyals.ca/sports/2015/10/5/watchlive.aspx
