PREVIEW: Second ranked Knights look to ground Hawks

PREVIEW: Second ranked Knights look to ground Hawks

It will be a heavyweight match-up on Wednesday night as the Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (9-2, 2nd OCAA West) welcome the undefeated Humber Hawks (10-0, 1st OCAA West) to Welland. The contest features the OCAA's number one and two ranked teams in the province.

Entering the match, the Knights are riding a four game winning streak that dates back to December. However the Knights last loss came at the hands of the Hawks, when they dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-16) decision on December 19th. It was a match in which the Knights struggled to find their rhythm and were unable to contain the service game of the Hawks.

Since that loss Niagara has been riding hot streak bolstered by exceptional team play. The Knights have consistently had multiple attackers scoring double digit points, demonstrating depth throughout the lineup. The diversified attack is also a testament to the ball distribution of Bailey Davis (Cambridge). Davis, the second-year Recreation and Leisure services student, has done an exceptional job keeping opposing defenders off balance, and currently leads the OCAA with 8.19 assists per set.

Historically the Knights have never defeated the Hawks in 20 previous attempts. It will be a steep test, but Niagara will look to buck the trend on Wednesday night. First serve for the matchup is set for 6:00pm at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free.
