RECAP: Knights unable to overcome surging Royals

The Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (9-5, 3rd OCAA West) dropped a 3-2 (25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 18-25, 13-15) decision to the Redeemer Royals on Friday night. Despite the loss, the Knights remain in third place in the OCAA West division standings with four games remaining.

Linnea Davis (Brampton) was tremendous for Niagara, leading the way with 17 points on the strength of 13 kills and four stuffed blocks. Playing close to home, Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) also had a strong night for the Knights, adding 13 points and 13 digs. In the backcourt Kennisis VanSoelen (Orangeville) was outstanding picking up a game high 21 digs in the contest, while Samantha Bailey (Cambridge) also contributed 19 digs.

Although they were unable to overcome a surging Royals team, Head Coach Ray Sarkis was pleased with the team's effort. "Despite the loss, we followed the game plan to a tee on both offence and defence," quipped Sarkis following the match, "I was very pleased with the way we played."

The Knights will have a week to re-group as they hit the court next on February 6th and 7th as they welcome the Cambrian Golden Shield (8-7, 6th OCAA West) and Boreal Vipères (0-15, 10th OCAA West) to the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. Currently in third place with four games remaining, the Knights will look to turn things around at home as they play for home court advantage in the first round of the playoffs.
