RECAP: Knights score third straight victory in win over Mountaineers

The Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (8-2, 3rd OCAA West) started of 2016 by extending their winning streak to three as they defeated the Mohawk Mountaineers (2-8, 8th OCAA West) on Friday night. The Knights dropped the first set but rallied to win the next three for a 3-1 victory (21-25, 25-23, 25-13, 25-21).

Despite the sluggish start, the Knights found their stride in the second set and never looked back.  "It was a scrappy match," said Knights head coach Ray Sarkis, "the team took a while to shake off some rust from the long layoff but were able to finish strong."

Rachel Rivers (Cambridge) led the way for Niagara on both sides of the ball with 12 kills and 17 digs. The Knights also received double digit digs from Linnea Davis (Brampton) and Kennisis VanSoelen (Orangeville) with 10 apiece.

Niagara will now hit the road for an afternoon matchup at 2:00 pm on Sunday against the St. Clair Saints (6-4, 5th OCAA West). They will return home for a date with the undefeated Humber Hawks (10-0, 1st OCAA West) on Wednesday, January 20th at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre at 6:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free. The game will be streamed live at http://goknights.ca/watchlive
