PREVIEW: Condors land in Niagara on Knights Grad Night

PREVIEW: Condors land in Niagara on Knights Grad Night

The Niagara Knights women's volleyball program (11-5, 3rd OCAA West) will play their final home game of the regular season on Friday night at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. With the Knights looking to earn a first round playoff bye, it will be the Conestoga Condors (2-14, 9th OCAA West) hoping to play the spoiler. Friday evening will also serve as Grad Night for Niagara, who will honour three graduating athletes prior to the opening serve, in what could be their final match on home court.

With only two games remaining in the regular season the Knights have high hopes they will be able to earn a bye directly into the OCAA Championships at Canadore College in North Bay. Niagara currently find themselves two points behind the Fanshawe Falcons (12-5, 2nd OCAA West), having played one less match than the Falcons. A pair of victories in their final two matchups, combined with a Falcons loss against the undefeated Humber Hawks (16-0, 1st OCAA West), would see the Knights earn one of two byes directly into the championship that are reserved for the division's top two teams.

Coming off a pair of victories last weekend, it will be all hands on deck for the Knights against the Condors. In their previous matchup against Conestoga, the Knights used a balanced attack in a 3-1 (25-16, 25-10, 19-25, 15-15) victory in Kitchener. Jasmine Thome (Kenora) and Jordan Koslowski (Hamilton) both recorded 12 points in the win. Rachel Rivers (Cambridge) added 11 points and 13 digs, while Bailey Davis (Georgetown) had a season-high 36 assists. The Knights will rely on those same key players, along with reigning athlete of the week Linnea Davis (Brampton), on Friday night.

All-time the Knights hold a 10-3 overall advantage over Conestoga, including victories in each of their past three matchups. Following Friday's contest against the Condors, the Knights will follow-up Friday's match with a date against the Sheridan Bruins (9-8, 5th OCAA West) to close out the regular season. The Bruins are currently in a tie for the West division's final playoff spot, and will be desperate for a victory to ensure they reach the playoffs.

Friday's matchup is slated to begin at 6:00pm at the Welland Campus Athletic Centre. The Knights will honour three graduating athletes for their accomplishments both on and off the court prior to the first serve.  Tickets can be purchased at the door for $5.00 while students and those under the age of 17 are admitted free. Both games will be streamed live at http://goknights.ca/watchlive.
