Nathan Janzen named Head Coach of Niagara Knights Women’s Volleyball Program

The Niagara College Department of Athletics and Recreation is pleased to announce the hiring of Nathan Janzen as head coach of the Niagara College Women's Volleyball Program. Janzen becomes the 11th head coach in program history, taking over for interim head coach Ray Sarkis.

Janzen, a native of Hamilton, takes over a program that won a silver medal at the 2016 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship just two weeks ago, improving upon a bronze medal won in 2015.

"We are extremely excited to welcome Nathan to Niagara College," said Director of Athletics and Recreation Matthew Davies of the appointment. "He is an up and coming coach who brings a wealth of experience and success. We are confident that he will continue to develop our student-athletes and instill a culture that will allow Niagara to maintain success at both the provincial and national levels."

"I am excited and proud to join the Niagara College Women's Volleyball Program," said Janzen about his new position. "It is incredibly humbling to be given the opportunity to work with a talented group of student-athletes at a great institution like Niagara. After such a fantastic year for this program, I look forward to supporting the current team members on and off the court while continuing the recruiting process for next year and beyond."

He has spent the last six seasons at the university level with the McMaster Marauders men's and women's teams. In that time the Marauders have captured five OUA championships, one CIS silver medal, and two CIS bronze medals with the men and one OUA championship with the women.

Alongside his intercollegiate experience Janzen has spent time as a coach for both Team Ontario and Team Canada. He was the assistant coach with the Men's Junior National Team at the 2013 FIVB World Junior Championships in Turkey. He has also been a part of the Team Ontario program for the last three seasons. Janzen was the assistant coach of the Ontario 18U boys team in 2014 and head coach of the Ontario 16U boys team in 2015. He is currently an assistant coach with the Ontario team that will compete at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg.

Janzen will officially take over the program on March 18th, following the conclusion of the CIS Championship with McMaster. The Marauders won the OUA championship this past weekend on home court and are now playing host to the CIS Men's Volleyball Championship in Hamilton on March 10th-12th.
