The Niagara College men's volleyball program will open their 2013-14 regular season with a pair of weekend road matches against the Boreal Vipers and Cambrian Golden Shield.  The Knights will enter the season with high expectations after capturing the 2012-13 West Division title, and having one of the strongest recruiting classes in recent memory.

The 2013-14 Knights will feature a completely revamped lineup from last season. Gone are veteran setter Brad Wall, middle blockers Sam Youlton and Millar Galbraith, and 2012-13 CCAA All-Canadian Shayne Petrusma.

Taking the court in 2013-14 for the Knights are an athletic group of players that during the 2013 pre-season demonstrated the high talent level of the roster.

Returning OCAA Rookie of the Year Jeff Scott (Georgetown) will be a focal point of the Knights offense, as will returning middle blocker Logan Varga (Brantford), and rightside Bret Polfuss (Kitchener).

Joining the veterans will be a pair of CIS transfers in towering six-foot-eight Nathan Snippe who previously competed for the Windsor Lancers, and Welland Native Daniel Groenveld. Groenveld most recently competed for the McMaster Marauders and is a former member of Canada's Junior National Team.

Also joining the Knights are a trio of highly coveted first-year players in setter Ricky Brar (Brampton), libero Bailey Cochrane (Barrie), and Cole Palma (Ashburn). Despite being in their first year with the Knights, the trio all have significant playing experience with two of Ontario's premier club teams. Brar competed for the Mississauga Pakmen, and Cochrane and Palma competed for the Durham Attack.

On Saturday the Knights will face the Boreal Vipers at 8:00pm. The Vipers finished the 2012-13 season with a record of 0-20. The Knights opponent on Sunday will be the Cambrian Gold Shield who finished 2012-13 with a record of 2-18.
