All-Star Outside Hitter Jeremy Williams Joins Men's volleyball

The Niagara College men's volleyball program is pleased to announce the addition of all-star outside hitter Jeremy Williams. The highly touted Williams will join the Knights in September of 2014 and has competed as a member of the OVA Champion Durham Attack and OFSAA 'AAAA' Champion Sinclair Celtics.

Hailing from Whitby, the six-foot-four Williams made the journey to Niagara College's Welland campus athletic centre to accept an athletic scholarship, and to be formally welcomed into the Knights family.

Taking time away from his summer coaching duties with the Canadian Senior Men's National 'B' program, Knights head coach Nathan Groenveld commented "it's great to welcome a highly skilled and athletic player like Jeremy to our program. Jeremy is a quality individual that has won at both the high school and club level. We are looking forward to seeing him in a Knights uniform."

Williams plans on pursuing a diploma in general business. He acknowledged that an element of familiarity with members of the Knights men's volleyball program played a key role in his decision to attend Niagara College.

"I feel like my decision to attend Niagara College is the right one. I have two former teammates (Bailey Cochrane and Cole Palma) that were playing on the team here last year and they spoke really highly about the school and the privilege of playing on the volleyball team" said Williams. He continued "I also met Coach Groenveld at the Ontario High Performance Centre last year, and I know he is a great coach that has an awesome staff behind him."

Williams' owns an impressive volleyball resume that includes both team and individual accolades. He has been a member of four consecutive LOSSA high school championships, is a 2013 OFSAA 'AAAA' Champion, and a 2014 OVA Champion. At the individual level Williams earned the 2012 Durham Attack Leadership award, and was a 2014 OVA Provincial All-Star, and a 2014 OVA 18U Boys' All-Star selection.

Coach Groenveld continued "Jeremy has been well coached and comes from a tradition of winning. He is driven to improve every time he enters the gym. We believe he has the potential to be a significant contributor at the OCAA level."

Williams will join a Knights men's volleyball program that is coming off back to back 14-4 seasons. The team will return the bulk of its roster from 2013-14. Williams is looking to quickly "learn the system and build on becoming as efficient, consistent, and effective a player as possible." He also hopes to "do well in classes, get in the best shape possible, build chemistry with a great group of guys, and end the season with a championship."

Williams and the rest of the Niagara College men's volleyball program will kick off the 2014-15 season on October 26th when the team visits the St. Clair Saints.
